My Self Imposed Deadline to be a Digital Nomad

Next year is a milestone birthday for me. I know it’s silly to have these self imposed deadlines, but here I am, with a self imposed deadline to accepting the shackles of adulting by my next birthday. Adulting is hard. I’ve been doing it for a while now and I think I want to postpone it a while longer, and what better way than to flee the country?

A couple years ago, I saw an ad on Instagram for a program called Remote Year. I thought it was such an amazing idea, to be a remote worker and travel all over the world. I sooo want to do it, but the timing just didn’t seem right (I mean, when does it?). But now, I’ve come to my now or never moment.

My commitment to myself

In 2018 decided to work for myself and become an agile/product/project consultant to startups. Amazingly, I’ve been able to keep a roof over my head these 2 years and got to serve the teams of 7 very cool Canadian companies. Most of my work was remote, with client visits ranging from once a week, to once a month. The call of #RemoteYear became ever more compelling, and on June 1st (the start of my birthday month) I took a leap and made a commitment to join Remote Year.

It took a while for the shock to wear off that I actually did it! It was a big step! I overcame one hurdle, the next one would be telling my parents… a hurdle that took 5 months to overcome…

This is the first post on my new blog. I’m just getting this going, so stay tuned for more. Subscribe below to get notified when I post new updates.
