The Extension
Apr. 9 – I feel I appreciate the no phones at the dinner table rule a little more after last night. As our lockdown family sat down for dinner I saw an alert on my phone that President Ramaphosa was making a live address to the nation. Everyone hushed as I clicked on the link to listen to the speech. I made a guess that this would be the announcement we’d all been waiting for, the one where we’re told that the lockdown has been extended, and I was right.

Yesterday marked the 2 week point of the lockdown, and although there were many positive outcomes from this, the president felt it was best to extend it, and I don’t disagree. Thankfully, the two week extension still falls within out AirBnB reservation and we won’t have to move during the lockdown.
The news was expected, so it wasn’t a surprise, but it comes with another feeling… maybe disappointment? But I’m not sure… Yesterday we did another grocery run and took a longer route to the store. It was so nice to just be able to walk outside and walk close to the water. At the same time, it was also a little jarring to see such a beautiful beach empty of people.
I wish the restriction on movement wasn’t strict so that we were allowed to exercise with acceptable social distance, but I guess all we can do right now is live on.
